Biography:

Dedrick “D. B.” Gray is a dancer, choreographer, and dance scholar whose areas of expertise include hip hop, West African, jazz, contemporary, and Afro Cuban dance. As a choreographer, he is interested in creating performance around the African American experience in connection with the African diaspora. He has performed in or choreographed works for numerous productions and festivals around the country, working with choreographers and directors including Ronald K. Brown, Kehinde Ishangi, Gwen Welliver, J’Sun Howard, and Marceia Scruggs. He has also served as interim residency coordinator at the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC) in Tallahassee, where he had the opportunity to support over 50 choreographic artists, helping to customize their residencies based on their focus and interest; and as education program coordinator/teaching artist/scholarship coordinator at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, helping to bring dance education to more than 5,000 K–12 public school students. He previously taught at Florida A&M University, Florida State University, and Bard College, where he taught beginning and advanced hip hop through a partnership with Gibney Dance.
