On-campus living at Bard affords students the opportunity to meet and share accommodations with others from all over the country and the world. The residences are as eclectic as the College’s student population; rather than having a uniform architectural design, the halls have evolved as Bard has grown. All residences offer options for student development in small-group settings.

Residence Life

The Bard campus boasts more than 50 student residences featuring WiFi, social rooms, kitchens, and laundry facilities. Most of them are coed, and roughly one-third of the rooms are single occupancy. Residence halls are staffed by peer counselors, who assist students in navigating campus life and organizing social, cultural, and educational events to foster community and academic life.

Campus Dining

Students who live on campus, as most do, take the meal plan, which offers flexible menus and extended mealtimes in the campus dining commons. Parkhurst dining service caters to vegans, vegetarians, nonvegetarians, and individuals with allergies and other dietary restrictions.

Campus Dining

  • Kline Commons, the main dining facility on campus, contains a large dining room, newly renovated serving area, meeting rooms, and a separate faculty dining area.
  • The Down the Road Café is centrally located in the Bertelsmann Campus Center.
  • The Manor House Café is steps away from the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and features two dining rooms with views of the Catskill Mountains and an outdoor dining terrace.
  • The Bard Meal Card is also legal tender in all dining locations.
Parkhurst Dining: Bard College's Food-Management Services
The main dining facility on campus is Kline Commons, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekdays, and brunch and dinner on weekends. Meals feature fresh, made-from-scratch food and menus that focus on seasonal items and provide selections that change throughout the day. Students can choose from a wide variety of items, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Most foods are prepared to order or cooked in small batches as close to service as possible. At least 20 percent of the food offered by Parkhurst Dining is purchased locally through partnerships with family-owned farms and other sustainable food sources. Other dining options include Down the Road Café in the Campus Center, Manor House Café on the North Campus, and Halal Bros also at Manor House. Bard Dining offers a variety of meal plans, which may include meal exchanges and a cache of “Bard Bucks” to spend throughout the semester at the cafés and market.
