Ordering Your Transcript

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 requires that transcripts of student records be released only upon the written consent of the student or alum.

Transcripts may be requested by using one of the following methods:

1.       Completing the Transcript Request Form (preferred)††††††††††††††††† (download a transcript request form)

2.       Writing a letter with the following information:

         Full Name

         Student ID number (if known) or Date of Birth

         Telephone number and email address

         Dates of attendance and year of graduation (if applicable)

         Address(es) to which the transcripts are to be mailed

         *Handwritten Signature*

The completed form or letter can be delivered to our office in Ludlow 201 or sent by mail, fax, or as a scanned attachment to an email. All requests must contain the studentís/alumís original handwritten signature and include the correct payment (see below).

A fee of $3.00 is charged for each official transcript; however the first ever official transcript is free. Please check with us if you are uncertain whether or not you have requested official transcripts in the past. We accept cash, check, or money order made payable to Bard College. We cannot charge to your student account or credit card. Payment should be mailed if requests are submitted via fax or email. While we do not need to wait for payment before processing, we do ask that you inform us that payment is on the way. Unofficial transcripts are always free.

Please check with the receiving institution to determine which type of transcript to send.

An official transcript is printed on special watermarked paper and contains the college seal and the Registrarís signature. It is mailed in a sealed envelope and therefore cannot be faxed or sent electronically. If an institution is requiring that you upload an official transcript, you will need to request one to be mailed to yourself for you to scan.


Unofficial transcripts contain the same academic information, but are not sealed and signed. They are normally sent as a pdf to your email address as indicated on the transcript request form.


We cannot issue transcripts to anyone whose financial obligations to the college have not been met.

Transcripts are mailed using US Postal Service First Class Mail. Postage and envelopes are included in the transcript fee.

We can expedite the mailing of transcripts using FedEx delivery services for overnight or two-day deliveries.FedEx will bill you directly so check their website at fedex.com for a rate quote (our area code is 12504), then contact us. FedEx cannot deliver to P.O. Boxes.
