Prior to joining the Bard College, Dr. Acar was a visiting scholar of Christian-Muslim relations at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and visiting scholar of Islamic Studies at the Center for Near Eastern Studies, UCLA where he was mainly involved in an independent research program, Theory of Crime in Islam. Dr. Acar came to the center from Dokuz Eylul University, Turkey where he served as an Assistant Professor of Islamic Law and received his PhD in 1999. He is currently also finishing a Master’s degree in Comparative Religious Studies at the University of Chicago.
