What
is WebCT?
WebCT (Web Course Tools) is a web-based environment where educational
activities and materials are accessed by a web browser. WebCT
can be accessed from a computer anytime, anywhere. Bard professors
have used WebCT in a number of ways:
- posting
course content
- creating
an image data base
- extending
class discussions via an electronic bulletin board
- facilitating
a class discussion via a chat room
- assigning
students to create projects on line that has included both text,
images and audio files
- posting
assignments
- creating
online quizzes
What version web browser do I need to use
WebCT?
In order for WebCT to work properly, you must be using Netscape
version 4.0 or higher, or Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher.
You
are currently using:
(Web Browser), (OS)
|
If
you do not a current version of these browsers, you can download
one from the Inside Bard website at the following location: http://inside.bard.edu/computing/downloads/.
How do I access WebCT?
You access WebCT from the Inside Bard homepage. In order to log
on to WebCT, you must have a WebCT account with an ID and a password.
How do I create a WebCT account?
(Click here to download a pdf of these instructions)
- Go
to the Inside Bard homepage.
- Click
on the WebCT link on the left-hand side of the page (beneath
the E-mail link). This will take you to the WebCT Welcome page.
- On
the WebCT Welcome page, choose See Courses on this server. You
are taken to the Course Listing Options page.
- Under
the Category section, select the division that your class is
in (for example, Division of Languages and Literature). The
Classes section will change to display the WebCT courses available
in that Division.
- Look
for your course in the Classes section. When you find it, click
on the key symbol next to the course. This will take you back

your login and password! You will use the same WebCT ID and
password for each course you add, so it is important for
you to remember them. You may want to email your ID and password
to yourself.
- After
you submit the information, WebCT will prompt you for a WebCT
ID and password. Use the ID and password that you just created.
- WebCT
will announce that you have successfully added your course.

Should I create a new WebCT account for each

NO. You should use the same WebCT ID and password for every
class you add to myWebCT. Creating multiple IDs may cause your
WebCT course to function improperly.
