A talk by
Jagannath Adhikari The talk will focus on growing practice of foreign labor migration in Nepal and on how participation in this new economy differs across regional, gender and class lines. The impact of this migration on the economy and society will be discussed. The analysis reveals that economy of Nepal is increasingly dependent on remittances. Labor migration and remittances have become a significant part of the household economy and a force for the reduction of poverty levels. But sustainability of this economy is still questionable particularly in the light of current recession and present trend of globalization. Comparison with other countries in South Asia will be made.
