Hello,
The following event may be of interest to you:
Tim Rollins and K.O.S.
Wednesday, November 5, 2008
After graduate studies in art education and philosophy at New York University, Tim Rollins was a founding member of the social activist collective Group Material. Then he began teaching art for special education middle school students in a South Bronx public school. In 1984, he launched the "Art and Knowledge Workshop" in the Bronx together with a group of at-risk students who called themselves K.O.S. (Kids of Survival). Together they read classic books like The Autobiography of Malcolm X and made art by layering pages from the books onto canvas and painting images on them. The group has exhibited extensively worldwide.
