Past Internships by Bard Psychology Majors

This past summer I obtained an internship at Weber State University in Utah through the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Research Experience for Undergraduates(REU) program. The REU was run through the university's Zoology program, and I chose to work with Dr. Michelle Arnold, a medical physicist specializing in heavy metal toxicology. My project was an assessment of lead and mercury exposure to raptors of the Salt Lake Ecosystem. We generated interesting findings, and a publication is in the works.

In the summer of 2005, I had received the Freeman Grant to intern abroad with Dr. Sing Lee. Dr. Lee is the director of Hong Kong Mood Disorders Center, a psychiatrist, and a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I was very fortunate to have Richard Gordon as my advisor, for he introduced me to Dr. Lee and help me land this internship. My internship took place at the Hong Kong Mood Disorders Center, where I interned as a research assistant. I assisted other research assistants in literature research of psychology journals, especially on the issue of suicide. I organized research results which will be used in a draft of a journal article about suicide attitude in Hong Kong. I also assisted in proofreading the translated instrument and analyzing the data (using SPSS) from a survey about depression in Hong Kong.
