About the Program
The Bard College Immediate Science Research Opportunity Program (ISROP) establishes a research community of first- and second-year students who work with the ISROP director. Projects using molecular biology, genetic, and biochemical techniques have been designed to overlap with faculty research interests, creating an academic link early in an undergraduate career with faculty mentors in the sciences.
Program Features
- Open to first-year students, with the opportunity
to continue through a second year.
- Research projects offer experience in infectious disease research and neurobiology research at the molecular level.
- Individual research participation is tailored
to the appropriate level for each student through side-by-side
benchwork with the program director.
- Peer networking among the ISROP students is promoted through common research goals.
- Advice is provided on summer research opportunities
available nationally.
- An annual symposium is held for the presentation
of research to the Bard community.
Benefits of ISROP
Students participating in ISROP:
- Gain invaluable hands-on research experience
and skills in critical thinking, problem solving and analytical
skills that are applicable in both course work and research.
- Explore academic and career interests in the fields of infectious disease and neurobiology, using molecular and biochemical techniques.
- Develop a collaborative working relationship
with faculty members early in their academic careers.
- Acquire professional experience for future
research and career opportunities.
