HEOP/BOP provides Bard with the funds to help meet the cost of an eligible student’s education. Qualifying students are also eligible for other state, federal, and institutional financial aid awards. Students are required to apply for the state’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and the federal Pell Grant. All students are expected to make a small contribution to the cost of their education from family savings or summer earnings.
- Disbursements from Bard’s scholarship fund are awarded as nonrepayable grants on the basis of financial need established by the recipients.
- The Federal Work-Study Program award is always part of a HEOP/BOP student’s financial aid package.
- Income documentation is required of all recipients of financial assistance.
- The student’s family is considered to be the first source of financial support and is expected to make a reasonable effort at assistance. The student is also expected to make a financial commitment to his or her education from summer earnings, savings, or other assets.
Because the family is considered to be the first source of financial support for the student, a student’s claim of financial independence is subjected to stringent criteria by the federal and state governments and by Bard College.
