All FLET’s, must live on campus in Cruger Village. Cruger Village is a group of seven residence halls (Bartlett, Cruger, Keen North, Keen South, Oberholzer, Sawkill, and Stephens) in North Campus. Typically home to first-year students, Cruger Village dormitories comprise smaller residential communities. FLETS live in Stephens Hall, also called the International House, which has been renovated to meet the needs of the tutors.

International House Accommodations:

  • 10 bedrooms furnished with a bed, desk, closet, dresser, 2 chairs, a reading lamp, a desk lamp and comfortable bedding;
  • 2 full-sized bathrooms;
  • laundry facilities (washer and dryer);
  • a fully-equipped kitchen, with refrigerator, microwave, stove, pots and pans, etc., allowing for family meals;

Housekeeping: Every Monday, the housekeeping service will come to clean the house. All other days of the week, Flets are responsible for garbage removal and maintenance of the space.

Location: The International House is centrally located, with all dining, performance, computing, library, and teaching and audio-visual facilities within walking distance.Housing and Weather

Entertaining: The International House allows FLETs to host small parties, or have a friends or family members visit for any number of days.

Availability: Upon arrival FLETs will be assigned a room in the International House by the staff. Housing is usually not available before the specified date of arrival. If FLETs decide to arrive earlier, they will need to make their own special arrangements. For more information, see the Survival Guide. FLETs usually arrive and have the house available 5 days before that semester’s first day of school (depending on the calendar year, somewhere between August 27 and September 5). At the end of the academic year, FLETs are allowed to stay in the house until one week after commencement , which mostly falls on the Saturday of the third week of May. Weather in the Hudson Valley

Click here to see the current weather at Bard College

Summer: You will be arriving at the end of the summer but you should expect hot and humid weather to continue through August and into September. Temperatures range from 50 to 90 degrees F (10 to 33 C). You will be most comfortable in loose light casual clothing. Be prepared for the many opportunities for outdoor activity.

Fall: September, October, and early November are often cool and can be windy and rainy. Temperatures range from 45 to 70 F (8 to 22 C).

Winter: Late November through March can be cold and occasionally very cold, from 40 to -10 F (5 to -20 C). There is often snow. To stay warm, it is best to wear several layers of clothing rather than one heavy sweater. We also recommend you get warm boots that are waterproof, and a warm winter jacket. You will be able to purchase both from reasonably priced stores after you arrive.

Spring: The Spring weather can be quite wet and cool, with hints of summer.

Dress

Dress is generally informal and quite varied at Bard. Bring national dress, if you have it, for important occasions and for the Cultural show.
