Facilities
The newly renovated Avery Film Center houses a 110 seat theater equipped with state-of-the-art 16mm and 35mm film projection, as well as the latest in digital video projection and Dolby digital surround sound. The facility also boasts multimedia and performance space; two screening/seminar rooms; a video installation gallery; a shooting studio with a control room; a film processing lab; and an animation studio. Additionally, the students have at their disposal a multimedia lab containing 15 Macintosh computers loaded with the latest software and a sound room capable of editing Dolby 5.1 soundtracks. Upper classmen have access to smaller editing suites with high quality video and audio monitoring capabilities.
The department also has a video library consisting of thousands of titles including current, mainstream Hollywood offerings; classic foreign cinema; documentaries; experimental films from many nations and eras to student films from throughout the history of the department.
Some of the equipment available to students enrolled in film production classes, as of Spring of 2008, includes a Arri SRII 16mm camera, Bolex RX3, 4 & 5 16mm cameras, and Panasonic HVX200 DVCPro and DVX100 digital camcorders. The department also stocks a wide variety of lighting and sound equipment, as well as a jib and a dolly with tracks.
