Configure Your Webspace

3. Upload Your Webpage
Once you have created your web pages, you will need to upload the files you
created in order for them to be viewed via the WWW. Before you can upload your
pages to Bard's server some of you* will need to configure your web space to serve web
information.
*This applies to everyone hired before 2005.

1. Double-click "Telnet Bard" or open Telnet to connect to the bard.edu system
(the same way you log on to use Pine to read email)
2. Log on and enter your password just like you would if you were using Pine
to read email:
telnet (bard.edu)
Bard College Academic Computing
Bard login:
Password:
3. After you have entered your password, the prompt (%) appears after your
user name:
1 bard:yourusername/ %
4. To set up your web publishing space, type makeweb after the prompt (%):
Note: This is the same place you usually enter "mail" or "pine" in order
to read your email. You enter "makeweb" this one time only, since this command
creates your web space.
5. You will then see the following:
This program will configure your home directory for web
Publishing
This program only needs to be done once
If you've already run it, quit now.....
Enter y to configure for web publishing....enter q to quit
===============>
6. Enter y to go ahead to set up your web publishing directory.
7. After entering y you will see the following on your screen:
Creating your web directory
Done......Use your web browser to access:
http://inside.bard.edu/computing/webpublish
for more information about web publishing
2 bard:yourusername/ %
Enter q to quit Telnet to Bard. You are now ready to upload your web pages
into your web space.
