WebCT (Web Course Tools, version 4.1) is a web-based Learning Management System (LMS) that Bard has used since 1999 to enhance traditional classroom teaching.

Since being bought by the competitors Blackboard in 2005, WebCT has not been consistently updated. The recent version, WebCT 6.2 (Blackboard Campus Edition) demands complicated "upgrade solutions" with various serious outcomes.

The recent problems with Campus Edition upgrades - the cost associated with both the upgrade and base price of Blackboard's current version of the WebCT tools - have lead many of our peer institutions to move to the open-source LMS Moodle. Our current collaborators as we move out of our current testing phase of using Moodle include Kenyon, Lafayette, Reed, and Smith.
