Webmail FAQs

Q. In Netscape Navigator, after I log in, the message below appears in front of my e-mail list. I click on OK  and the message disappears. Then when I try to get my messages, why do I wind up back at the Login form instead?

No Data Message

A. Most likely, you have set Netscape Navigator not to accept cookies.  Reset it either to accept all cookies or to notify you before accepting a cookie. (Then you must manually accept each cookie as the cookie request appears on your screen.)  To reset Netscape Navigator,  click on Edit in the Menu Bar, then click on Preferences.  Now click on Advanced  and reset your cookie preferences.

Q. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, after I log in, the webmail page doesn't display correctly and I can't open my mail.

A. Most likely, you have set MS Internet Explorer not to accept cookies.  Reset it either to accept all cookies or to notify you before accepting a cookie. (Then you must manually accept each cookie as the cookie request appears on your screen.)  To reset Microsoft Internet Explorer, click on View in the Menu Bar, then click on Internet Options.  Now click on the Advanced tab and scroll down until you find the cookie section.  Then reset your cookie preferences.

Q. When I clicked the BACK button, why did I get a "Data Missing" message (in Netscape) or a "WARNING: Page Has Expired" message (in MS Internet Explorer)?

A. You were probably clicking all the way back to the Login form.  The form "disappears" after you have logged in.  In general, don't use the browser toolbar to navigate in Bard Webmail. Instead, use the menus, links, and navigation buttons within the Bard Webmail interface itself.

Q. When I replied to a message, why was the original message automatically quoted and how do I get rid of it?

A. Bard Webmail is set by default to quote the original message.  If you don't want to include it in your reply, just delete the quoted material.

Q. When I click on Folders one option is to subscribe to a folder, another is to unsubscribe.  What does "subscribe/unsubscribe" mean and why would I want to do it?

A. A better set of terms might be "show/hide."  These choices apply to folders you have already created.  While in another email application (such as Netscape Messenger or Pine) you may have created a folder that does not appear in the Bard Webmail drop-down list of folders.  If you want to add it to the list, choose it from the Subscribe  drop-down menu and click on the Subscribe this folder button.  Conversely, you may have created any number of folders that you don't wish to appear in the active list of folders.  For instance, you may have folders that you use only to archive old messages.  Use the Unsubscribe function to hide these names in the folder list.

Q. How do I delete e-mail?

A. To the left of each message is a check box. Check the e-mails you would like to delete and then click "Delete" at the top of the e-mail window. They are now flagged to be trashed. To empty the trash click "Empty Trash".

Q. Why should I log out when all I have to do instead is close my browser?

A. Logging out automatically erases all the cookies you accepted in order to allow Bard Webmail to function for this session.
