Using Netscape Messenger
In order to use Netscape Messenger for e-mail, you must create
a personal profile first. Therefore you cannot use Netscape Messenger on the
computers in the public labs. Follow these steps to create a personal proflie
on your own computer:
1. Open Netscape
2. Go to Edit in the Menu Bar and scroll down to Preferences.
3. Open Mail & Newsgroups.
4. Cick on Identity and fill in your information.
5. Click on Mail Servers and select "mail" listed under Incoming
Mail Servers. Click Edit and fill in the information as below (using
your Bard username where it says user name).

6. Click OK to save the preferences.
Problems with Netscape Messenger (IMAP)
Q: I empty the Trash folder in Netscape Messenger (IMAP) frequently, but
I discovered when I used WebMail (or Pine) that messages I thought I had trashed
were still there. What's going on? How do I really get rid of messages in Netscape
Messenger?
A: The "Expunge" feature of Netscape Messenger (IMAP) must
be set: In the Netscape menu bar, click on Edit, then click on Preferences.
Under Mail & Newsgroup click on Mail Servers. In the Mail
Servers dialog box, click the Edit button. Then click the IMAP
tab. In the IMAP dialog box, make sure there is a check mark next to Clean
up ("Expunge") Inbox on exit. Then click the OK button.
Click the OK button in the Preferences dialog box to close it.
Q: Under bard.edu (or under mail) I deleted some folders.
The next time I opened Messenger, the folders were still there. I tried to delete
them again and received a message that they didn't exist. How do I get rid of
them?
A: The "Expunge" feature of Netscape Messenger (IMAP) must
be set. See the instructions in the answer to the previous question.
