*Who is RiverWalk?RiverWalk is a coalition of students, community organizations, environmental and social justice awareness groups and other concerned individuals. *How long will we walk? Each day we will walk between 6-9 hours. We will be walking approximately 15-20 miles a day, at a leisurely pace. Half of the walking will be done in the morning and we will have a lunch break from 12:30PM to 1:30PM. After this break we will walk the rest of the way until we arrive at our ending point for the day in the evening. We will take water breaks during our walk. You can walk as little or as long as you want. Come for an hour, a day or the whole week. *Where will we sleep? We will set up places to stay overnight for each of the stops. Most likely they will vary from campgrounds where walkers can pitch their tents to gymnasiums, churches, and people's houses. If you or your group can suggest housing options at the ending points of each day, please contact riverwalk@bard.edu *Will we have to carry our bags? There will be a U-Haul truck which will carry our belongings. The truck will follow us during the day and meet us when we arrive at our housing for the night. Let us know if you will be available to drive the U-Haul and if you're a Bard Driver! *Is this legal? Walking is a legal mode of transport. RiverWalk will be notifying all of the communities along the route and will take the necessary precautions to ensure safety of all the walkers. All the roads along the route allow pedestrian travel. *What will be available in case of emergency? The U-Haul will be equipped with first-aid kits, food and water to support walkers. We will have a cell phone for emergencies. We will be organizing with local communities to provide food and shelter. *What about the communities and towns that we will be walking through? Our aim is to walk with these communities and it is very important that we be respectful to everyone and everything on our walk. The route will be modified according to the specific desires of these communities. Last year, local news covered our walk, and people in the communities knew about us and showed their support when they drove by us on their way to work. > |
