Should you be constantly reminded of where you come from?

In 1977 George Gerbner and G. Marvanyi published an article on the bias of the press called "The Many Worlds of the World's Press." From their study, they discovered that the geographic world was not proportionately reflected in the world news of sixty daily newspapers. Drawing maps to represent the world as reported in the news, they revealed the degree to which the news gives a distorted view. The map above is what the"news geography" of the world looked like. Click on a color coded map and you will not only be able to see it closer, but will also come across links to newspapers from that region of the world. You can decide for yourself how accurate the maps are at representing the newspapers' coverage. The color codes are as follows: Red - Eastern Europe, Blue - United States, Yellow - Former Soviet Union, Green - Western Europe, Brown - "Third World" Countries |
