About CDO
CDO assists students and alumni/ae with career planning. Bardians may schedule individual appointments or attend any of our various workshops and programs offered throughout the year. Students are encouraged to visit the office for advice on any career-related question. Typically students seek help on preparing a resume, searching for a summer job or internship, making post graduate plans, and sorting out career goals. Please contact CDO if you have any questions or suggestions. We will be happy to hear from you.
CDO has six main functions:
- career counseling to support career exploration and preparation
- graduate/professional school advising
- sponsoring career events and programs
- providing resources for volunteer, internship and job opportunities

CDO Advising
CDO provides Graduate and Professional School Advising for students
and alumni/ae considering advanced education. We offer general advice regarding graduate study as well as guidance with the application process and timetable, selecting and evaluating programs, feedback on personal statements and essays, and a Credential File Service for recommendations.
CDO Resources
We offer a career and graduate school library, one publication, the Bard Basic Job Guide and informational handouts on various career related topics and graduate school.

Staff
April Kinser, Director
B.A., Portland State University; M.F.A., Pratt Institute
April Kinser has worked in higher education since 1989 and joined Bard College in 2003. She delivered student advising and career services at Parsons School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology and taught at New York University and New School University. She is certified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and her specialization in career counseling is working with creative people. She is the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Artists' Fellowship prize in Architecture for her site-specific environmental installations. Her work has been reviewed in ArtNews, the New York Times, and Arts Magazine.
Elisabeth Giglio, M.S.W., assistant director
B.A., Earlham College; M.S.W., University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Elisabeth Giglio has spent 10 years working in the film industry in NYC, managing a post-production sound facility. She has also worked in non-profit and social service organizations. She is certified to administer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and completed a certificate in career counseling at NYU. Elisabeth was a career counselor at NYU’s Center for Career Management and continues to teach classes at NYU’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies.
