Introduction
The Bard Visual Resource Center / Slide Library, located in Room 153 Fisher Studio Arts Building, mainly serves the
teaching needs of Art History and Studio Art faculty, but
extends borrowing privileges to students and faculty from all
Bard departments and most Bard affiliated programs. The collection currently consists of approximately 130,000 slides
(and 10,000 digital images) of art and architecture from all periods in the history of
art (pre-historic to contemporary). Collection holdings
reflect past courses offered by faculty.

Check-out
Due to frequent circulation of images, faculty may borrow slides from the Visual Resource Center for a 24-hour period. Students
may only remove slides for a class presentation during
the time of the presentation. However, slides may be pulled
up to a week in advance of a presentation and put on reserve
in the Slide Library.
Replacing Lost and Damaged Slides
A fine of $2.50 per slide will be charged for damaged slides
and a fine of $10.00 per slide will be charged for lost/missing
slides. However, if the borrower assists with the replacement
of the lost or damaged slide, this fee may be waived. Where
possible, the Curator will provide the source information
for the original slide. Replacement or reimbursement for a
vendor-purchased slide will be determined on a case-by-case
basis.
Ordering Slides
Slides can be made at a faculty member's request, with advance notice. All slides made
by the Slide Library will become part of the collection. When good commercial sources for images
are unavailable, slides are produced from high resolution images in books
and magazines. Faculty members must provide books. Please select only high-quality, color reproductions
(double-page spreads and b&w discouraged).
Process for ordering slides:
- Check the collection and confirm that we do not already have the images you need.
- Complete a Slide Request Form (one form per book) and submit books
with forms to Curator.
Please note:
- We require 2
weeks to process (shoot, develop, mount and catalog) faculty slide orders (of two rolls or less; @ 36 exposures per
roll), and 2-3 weeks for student orders
(student orders should not exceed one roll).
- Large
orders for new courses (200-300+ slides) should be discussed
with the Curator a semester in advance.
- Due to limited staff and budgetary resources, requests for personal slides cannot be accommodated.
Audio-visual Arrangements
