Bard Digital Image Database:
This database is available for Bard faculty and student use. The database, MDID (which stands for Madison Digital Image Database, as it was originally created and generously distributed by James Madison University in Virginia), allows enrolled members of the Bard educational community to access the Visual Resource Collections of Bard College and the Bard Graduate Center.
The database is in the early stages of implementation at Bard, but will grow to include, organize, distribute and archive the course and research related images of individual faculty members and academic departments at Bard College.
Access the database at: http://madison.bard.edu
[ Note: Faculty and students will need to become registered users of the database in order to gain access. ]
Please contact the curator, Leslie Melvin (x7304 or via e-mail melvin@bard.edu), to register, or if you would like additional information about this digital database.
It is recommended that faculty members wishing to use the database's classroom presentation and/or study features schedule a quick orientation meeting with the curator. Additional workshops on using digital image technology in (and outside of) the classroom will be offered to faculty throughout the year, and will cover the use of ARTstor, MDID and Powerpoint for presentations and study purposes.

Faculty Guidelines for Study Webpages
Any Art History faculty member interested in having course images posted online for student study should speak with the curator. The following criteria are considered when deciding which classes are to have websites:
Criteria
- The class should be one that will be repeated in the future.
- The images should not follow a course textbook exactly, and thus duplicate an existing study method.
- The images must be of good quality.
Instructions for the Faculty Member
- At the end of each lecture or week the instructor culls through their slides and submits those that they wish to have posted on the webpage. Please try to keep the weekly total to 20 slides or less.
- If the information on the label differs from how it should appear on the web page, please bring it to the curator's attention (e.g. if the info is incorrect or incomplete).
- Please allow one full week from when the slides are submitted for the creation of the webpage (occasionally longer). It is best to have the images up 1 to 2 weeks before the exam, therefore please submit the final materials 2-3 weeks before the exam to allow sufficient time for scanning.
