The Modern
American Presidency Course
The course is designed as to give a wide theoretical background on presidential
issues, such as the relation between the president and Congress, the
president and the judiciary, the president and the media, the president
and the electorate, and so on. Besides these analytical essays, the
students read a few books written by persons working close to or alongside
presidents. The course does not wish to give answers to every issue;
rather it tries to draw attention to topics that are worth investigating
further.
Other questions to ponder on:
Why does the president has so much a fame in the United States? (as
opposed to the leaders of other countries in their native lands)
How democratic is the office of the US president? Is it worth imagining
that democracy is served by democratic institutions?
What is the most important thing that influences the decision of a young
voter before he or she casts his or her vote?
