Our mission is to be an active partner in the intellectual work of Bard's students, faculty, and staff. We strive to develop collections, services, and partnerships that help all users become more resourceful, more independent and more original scholars.

We take a campus leadership role in thoughtfully applying emerging media to the task of turning information into knowledge.
 
 

Purchases

BITS configures, prices and orders all computers for Bard’s faculty and staff as well as maintaining campus wide software licensing, special software procurement, and scheduling of the College's specialized IT facilities.

Rae Ann Moore the point of contact for all computer and software purchases and the faculty laptop pool, in which laptops are loaned out to faculty members for short term use.

Academic Technology

Academic Technology fosters innovation and excellence in research and in the curriculum. We advise and assist faculty and students in the use of information technology for the creation, organization, analysis, and presentation of scholarly, scientific, and curricular resources. Academic Computing also supports the Bard online course tool, Moodle.

Training & Documentation

The Training and Documentation office provides online and printed documentation to Bard faculty, students, and staff for Bard-supported software and services such as Microsoft Office, Moodle, E-mail, and Content Management Systems. They also offer classroom and one-on-one training, project assistance, and Helpdesk support.

A/V is an affiliated office providing the Bard campus with audio and visual support for educational endeavors, as well as Bard-hosted events and lectures.

Helpdesk

The BITS Helpdesk is the primary contact for all students, faculty, and staff for computing and technology issues. The Helpdesk provides technical, hardware, and software support for all Bard-owned computers including network and e-mail issues, password recovery, printing assistance.

Desktop Support

Desktop on support is available to all Bard employees and their Bard-owned computers. Current Computer models purchased and supported by Bard are Apple Macintosh and Dell (Windows PC). Services include assistance with hardware, software, security, and system repair on these supported computers. The tech team consists of four desktop technicians.

Real-Time Videoconferencing

Bard exploits the benefits of shared instructional technology, via global communication networks and the Internet. The prime example of this is the Bard-Smolny Virtual Campus project, which, using real-time videoconferencing, links students and faculty at Bard with colleagues at the Smolny College of the Russian State University of Saint Petersburg. This state-of-the-art technology reinforces curricular exchange and is a vital component in educational collaboration at an international level.
 
 

Mailing Lists: Sympa

Sympa is an open source mailing list management solution. It allows for the easy creation and management of email distribution lists. By using these lists, groups of users can communicate more efficiently via email. The list manager software distributes posted/moderated messages to all of the subscribers. The Sympa Mailing List software offers an array of options to managers of a list(s). Managers can be Bard faculty, staff, and students, OR non-Bard users.

Before you login to the Sympa List server, you must contact Helpdesk (helpdesk@bard.edu) to set up your list. You will need the names and email addresses of the members of your list. A list name will then be generated for you. sympa.bard.edu

 
 

Networks & Systems

Network & Systems Administration manages the installation and maintenance of Bard's data and wireless network, public computing labs, e-mail services, printing facilities, and web servers.

Web Services

The Web Services Group develops and supports Bard College's main recruitment and internal websites including www.bard.edu, inside.bard.edu, academic program websites, and many of the departmental and campus service websites.

Although the Web Services group does not offer services for personal or course websites, the staff provides the College's academic programs, institutes, and administrative offices with the following web services:
    - site concept and organization
    - site graphic design
    - coding and production
    - large-scale programming solutions
    - content management tools

Management Information Systems (MIS)

The MIS is an affiliated office that manages Banner, Bard's main information database system. Banner supports undergraduate and graduate admission, financial aid, student billing, records and registration, course data, and employee records. Through bip.bard.edu, students and faculty have online access to academic and personal information. MIS is comprised of:

     - Michael Scheringer, Technical Assistant, 758-7590.
