How the Indians Got Their Knife
By A.J.
A long long time ago the Indians needed a knife to cut their food. They
tried using rocks and sticks but they didn’t work. The children weren’t
allowed to hunt until they were nineteen. All the men were able to shoot
but they didn’t know what a deer looked like. The next day a man went out
to get something to eat and he saw a strange animal. He crawled quietly
and slowly up to it. He got his bow and arrow out pulled it back and
whoosh the arrow went soaring through the animal and in a tree. The arrow
went so fast that the tree fell down. Then the Indian said," I think I’m seeing
things." The Indian started walking back to the tribe. Soon he saw another
animal and this time it was real. He shot his arrow but he didn’t hit the deer,
he missed it by a hair. Then he said, "I think. I need to go to hunting
school.” He did go to hunting school and went into the woods with the rest
of his group. They waked quietly in the woods and while he was in his
group they all saw a pond with animals all around it. The group sneaked up
quietly and pulled ther bows and arrows out.. They pulled them back and
Woosh, Woosh, Woosh, Woosh all the arrows flew fast at some of the deer
and wolves and moose and they all were killed. On the way home the man
saw a round rock. He picked the rock up and ‘had an idea. When the group
got to the tribe the man took an arrow out of his case and. cut open the deer.
It was all slimly and gooey. The man saw a sharp, sharp rock on the
ground. It was so sharp that the blade cut the man’s finger thought he
could use the rock, so he used the sharp, sharp rock and cut the deer's fib
out and took the round stone and sharpened the rib. The Indian then used
the sharpened rock to cut the meat The tribe cheered. That is how the
Indians got their knife.
