The Elk’s Skeleton

Once upon a time a Lenape Indian went out to get skins to make clothes. On his way he saw a fine looking elk feeding on his corn. He took his ax and he split the elk’s head open. He took the elk’s skin and started heading home. On the way he saw a shadow on the path. It was the elk’s skeleton coming to kill him. Then out of the trees leaped the elk’s skeleton coming to strangle him. He died, and the elk’s skeleton went in the bushes waiting to strangle another hunter.
