The Legend of the Hammer Stone
by T.C.

One day long ago there was a young Lenape Indian boy named Runningkill. Runningkill went to the river every day to wash, and one day he found a unique rock. That day he showed his father that oval shaped rock. His father said "You got a hammering rock.' Runningkill decided to call it a hammer stone. That night all of the Lenape people had a celebration for Runningkill's discovery. From then on, spear points and arrowheads were sharper and easier to make. Two years later the chief died and Runningkill became chief, but white men killed him later on in time.
