Running Deer was very excited because this something that women indians didn't do. After Running Deer got her father's ax she headed for the woods again. When she was in the woods again she went very far. Then she went farther in the woods and saw a perfect tree that she wanted to chop down. So, she got in the position that she wanted to be in and then she pulled back the ax and WACK!! There goes one slit in the tree. Then she did the same thing again, again, again, and again till the tree was down.
Then she heard something over there in the bushes. Then Running Deer went over to the bushes to see what it was. Then out popped Running Deer's best friend Running Horse. Running Horse was out in the woods because she was getting berries. Running Deer asked Running Horse" Can you help me bring this tree back to the Indian camp?" "Why sure I will as long as you come back to help me pick berries." "Ok" said Running Deer. So, they both got on each side of the tree and when Running Deer said three they tried to pick up the tree. But, the tree was to heavy to pick up.
Then they heard something behind the trees. Running Deer and Running Horse went over to the trees to see what it was. It was white explorers! Running Deer and Running Horse were so afraid that they ran out of the woods and all the way back to the Indian camp! But, as they approached the Indian camp Running Deer and Running Horse became curious about what that noise was so they went all the back into the woods. ( But, they weren't that far out of the woods.) Then Running Deer and Running Horse went into the bushes even though they were afraid of what might be in the bushes. Carefully the girls opened up the bushes and what they saw were WHITE EXPLORERS!!!! Running Deer and Running Horse were very, very, very afraid! So, they ran out of the woods and back to the Indian camp. When Running Deer and Running Horse were in the Indian camp they told Running Deer's mother what they saw. Running Deer's mother then started gossiping about what Running Deer and Running Horse had seen. After everyone had heard about the white explorers the Indian chief decided to send out his best warriors.
The warriors went out on their mission to find out if there really were white explorers camping in the woods or Running Deer and Running Horse were fibbing. Also they wanted to find out if the white explorers were dangerous. The warriors did find the white explorers and then knew that Running Deer and Running Horse weren't fibbing. Now that they know that there are white explorers they have to find out if they are dangerous.
To the warriors surprise the white explorers weren't dangerous. The warriors talked with them and then brought them back with them so everyone will know that they are NOT dangerous. When they got back everyone seemed very calm not scared.\par After a year or so all the indians became friends with the white explorers. When the white explorers had to leave everyone was upset. Running Deer and Running Horse went up to them and asked" Do you really have to leave?" Then the white explorers said "Yes, we do have to leave. But maybe we will come back for a visit." "Ok!" said Running Deer and Running Horse. After the white' explorers had left everyone had gone back to their regular routine. Including Running Deer and Running Horse. After a year (or maybe more ) the white explorers came to their indian camp. But this time they came to stay. Running Deer and Running Horse had lots of fun growing up with them. Running Deer and Running Horse had a great life and got married to great men!
