Antlers for a Headdress
by R.R.

Once before the white man came to America, there was a boy named Strong Rhino. One day in the summer my father and I were out hunting and I hit a deer with an arrow. It was a young one and we camed it back to the village. But the village had a drought, that means the water in the river would be low. So we went to the Hudson River to catch fish. It would be easier because the water would be low and we could see the fish.

Back at home we cooked the deer and fish for dinner at a special cei'emony, but we kept the antlers for the headdress. We made the headdress and gave it to the dancers. The dancers danced for rain. The .next day it poured.

The crops that were dry were soaked and everything was wet. Now the river was full and the fish were swimming happily. The dancers thanked us and they invited us to breakfast. It was great. We it had fruit, vegetables, and some nuts. The headdress was damaged by the rain so we fixed it. We will save it for the next time we need it. It soon will be autumn and we need to collect food for the tribe. The food we collect is meat, nuts, fruit, vegetables, and fish. I have to go help the tribe. Maybe, I should wear sSmething very warm. Maybe we can visit some other time. When it's warmer.
