metal crucifix

Encrusted in soil, this silver crucifix came from a shovel test near the anthropogenic depression. Tillotson's father, from the largely Catholic colony of Maryland, may have influenced one of the site's occupants to wear this tiny figure of Christ.

Purpose of Investigation

Village Dorms artist rendering

An artist's rendering of the Village
Dorms expansion project

In 2005, Bard College proposed to expand its Village Dormitory complex on Annandale Road by adding six new dormitories. The Area of Potential Effect (APE) abuts the existing Village Dorm complex, built in 2000, where the development was redesigned so as to move the proposed parking lot away from one historical site, a discovery made during archaeological reconnaissance.

The Site Evaluation Report recommends mitigation measures to avoid a prehistoric stone tool manufacturing debris concentration and to minimize the adverse impact on an historical debris scatter.  Trenches would sample the path of a narrow access drive. Their results will appear in a final data recovery report with all the other information from this project.
