The Burkert Ritual Model - Scene 3

The sacrificial participants (incliding priests and lay individuals) escort the animal to the altar in a procession. A virtuous maiden carries the sacrificial basket, filled to the brim with barley grains or cakes that conceal the sacrificial knife. A water vessel is also carried, along with an incense burner. Musicians may accompany the procession as well, typically a male or female flute player.
