Bard in China Program

The Bard in China Program was initiated in April 2000 in response to the strong interest in China shown by students at Bard and Simon’s Rock College of Bard. This program of events and exchanges was built on existing courses in Chinese language and Asian Studies in recognition of the growing importance of China’s international role. Each year outside speakers and performers are brought to the Bard community to make public presentations on topics that, to date, have included agriculture, anthropology, architecture, art, Beijing opera, economics, environment, film, history, literature, philosophy, political science, and music. Funds have been raised to support faculty research trips that lead to course development and for student language study and Senior Project research in Asia. The managing director, Katherine Gould-Martin, Frequently visits NYC and travels in China to make connections for future events and projects of Bard students and faculty.
