For Students in Chinese and Japanese Studies Before Moderation, usually by the end of the second year at Bard, students will have taken at least 1 year of Chinese or Japanese (8 credits) and at least 2 courses cross-listed with Asian Studies (8 credits). One of these courses should be in your field of future interest, which may be any of the disciplines taught in the Division of Arts, Languages & Literature, or Social Studies. To graduate, students complete the following requirements based on their chosen disciplinary focus. Students of China and Japan are expected to incorporate materials involving either language into their senior projects. I. Language and Literature

For All Other Asian Studies Students Before Moderation, usually by the end of the second year at Bard, students should have taken 16 credits (four courses) in courses cross-listed with Asian Studies. These might include, for example, 8 credits in courses offered within the Arts Division or Social Studies Division and 8 credits in the Languages and Literature Division. To graduate, students are expected to take a minimum of 40 credits in Asian Studies. Of these, 4 credits (one course) must be an Asian Studies Core Course treating an aspect of Asia in comparative perspective. The Senior Project topic may be specific to a particular culture, or it may be comparative. |
