James Cohan Gallery
The James Cohan Gallery is a fast-paced Chelsea gallery representing over 20 contemporary artists, including Bill Viola, Fred Tomaselli, Ron Mueck, Roxy Paine, Beatriz Milhazes, Richard Long, Yinka Shonibare, Bill Owens, Wim Wenders and the Estate of Robert Smithson along with emerging artists Trenton Doyle Hancock, Ingrid Calame, Alison Elizabeth Taylor, Folkert de Jong, Manfredi Beninati, Yun-Fei Ji, Hiraki Sawa, Erick Swenson and Xu Zhen.
The gallery invites one to two interns per semester to participate in an unpaid internship that will provide hands-one experience in daily gallery functions. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual seriously interested in pursuing a career in the contemporary art field.
The internship requires a commitment of two to three days per week. Interns will have the opportunity to assist on a variety of projects, in addition to administrative duties, including but not limited to cataloguing artist press, preparing press packs and occasionally covering reception duties and assisting the public. Applicants must be highly motivated hard-workers who are excellent at multi-tasking. An eye for detail and strong communication skills are key. They must also be dependable, punctual and upbeat. Eleanor Roosevelt
Summer Internship
The Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site Internship Program is for students interested in the history and management of historic house museums. This ten-week internship is awarded to a college student with an outstanding academic record pursuing a museum-related career. Candidates should possess a broad background in American history, the history of art, decorative arts, women's studies, or museum studies.
The summer intern's duties include researching and documenting the collection following standard museum practices, working with the archives, and assisting park staff in a variety of preservation projects. A $2,000.00 stipend is available and made possible by a generous grant from the Eleanor Roosevelet Val-Kill Cottage Preservation project of the Save America's Treasure Program.

The mission of El Museo del Barrio is to present and preserve the art and culture of Puerto Ricans and all Latin Americans in the United States.
Through its extensive collections, varied exhibitions and publications, bilingual public programs, education activities, festivals and special events, El Museo educates its diverse publics in the richness of Caribbean and Latin American arts and cultural history.
Opportunities are available for college students and recent graduates who are considering careers in the arts and would like “hands-on” training in museum education, practical museum work experience, familiarity with El Museo’s collection and a better understanding of Latin American Art and Culture. Responsibilities may include: guiding tours, assisting in conducting workshops, developing educational materials and assisting the Education staff and Artist Educators through clerical support. William Randolph Hearst FellowshipsHistoric House Summer Internships
The Mount Vernon Hotel Museum, 421 East 61st Street, New York, New York 10021, offers two summer fellowships for undergraduate or graduate students interested in U.S. history, museum studies, museum education, material culture, or historic preservation. The fellowships provide students with the opportunity to participate in the innerworkings of a historic house museum, and to engage in historical research related to the museum's period rooms, exhibits, and programs. The appointment is full time for a nine week period during June and July and the stipend is $2,750 per fellow.

Cedar Grove, The Thomas Cole National Historic Site
Openings for Summer Interns
Position Description: Interns at Cedar Grove will work closely with the Executive Director and the Education Director on projects in the areas of exhibition research, planning and design; special event planning and facilitation; interpretive program research and development; volunteer coordination and visitor services. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in all areas of museum operation. Academic credit can be arranged for students who complete a minimum number of hours per week, as determined by their college or other academic institution. Internship hours may consist of a combination of on-site and off-site work, with at least 50% to be conducted on-site at Cedar Grove.
Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for the completion of personal projects dependent on areas of interest and institutional needs. A percentage of time each week will be dedicated to filling visitor services needs i.e. working in the Visitor Center or providing house and studio tours. Training for these responsibilities will be provided.
Qualifications: Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for these positions. Students who have completed at least two semesters of study in the following fields: American History, American Studies, Art History, Education, Humanities, Museum Studies or Public History, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will be self-motivated, and able to work well with others. Summer Internships
Nine-week summer internships provide opportunities to work on projects directed by a Gallery curator or department head. Biweekly museum seminars introduce interns to the broad spectrum of museum work and to Gallery staff, departments, programs, and functions.
Possible placements are in the departments of French paintings, Italian paintings, northern baroque paintings, modern and contemporary art, sculpture and decorative arts, old master prints, modern prints and drawings, photographs, conservation, education, personnel, protection services, publishing, film programs, exhibition design, development, the archives, and the library.
Although consideration will be given to students with a recent undergraduate degree, preference will be given to candidates enrolled in a graduate program or who are recent M.A., M.F.A., or M. Year-Round Volunteer Internships, Research Assistantships, and Apprenticeships
In adition ot the Gallery's paid internships and lectureships, a number of unpaid internships, research assistantships, and apprentice-ships are available. Under the supervision of a curator or other department head, applicants work in the curatorial, education, conservation, publishing, or design departments. Interns attend a weekly museum seminar, contribute to ongoing Gallery projects and programs, and partake in the daily work of the department; research assistants and apprentices concentrate on more specific projects.
Positions are open to graduate students currently enrolled in a degre program and to recent recipients of a relevant advanced degree. Preference will be given to graduate students with funding from another granting institution or agency (e.g. Fulbright) and to applicants whose participation will count as partial fulfillment toward a degree.

Lipper Internship Program
Academic Semester Internships
In September 1997, the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust opened to the public. The Museum enables visitors to experience Jewish Heritage throughout the 20th Century and houses a core exhibit of more than 2,000 photographs and 800 historical and cultural artifacts interspersed with twenty-four original films. The Museums' mission is to educate people of all ages and backgrounds; its messages of freedom and tolerance resonate with all visitors.
The Museum of Jewish Heritage is offering a semester-long internship to further the reach of its educational mission. The Lipper Internship brings together graduate and undergraduate students from across the Northeast and is designed for students from a variety of fields and backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have a desire to learn and educate, an appreciation for museums, and an ability to work well with others in a diverse environment. Prior to the beginning of the fall or spring semester Interns attend an intensive ten-day training session at the Museum in New York City to learn how to teach public middle and high school students about the Holocaust. During training Interns meet with Museum staff, hear testimony from Holocaust survivors, and learn methods for teaching from artifacts in the Museum's collection. Following training, Interns visit schools in their college communities to give an introductory lesson in the classroom followed by a guided tour at the Museum. Interns then return to the classroom to facilitate a discussion about the lessons learned during the course of the program.
The Lipper Internship takes place over the course of an academic semester. Applicants must be actively enrolled at a college or university in the Northeast.

Kresge Art Museum
Academic Semester Internship
The Kresge Art Museum, on the campus of Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, has an opening for a fixed term, nine-month, full-time intern, beginning September 2006 and ending June 2007. The intern participates broadly in all areas of the museum; in exhibition development; curating and researching the collection; grant writing; registration; and education programming. Applicants must have completed some graduate work in art history and preferably have taken msueum studies courses or have museum experience, be computer literate, and must plan a museum career. Stipend: $16,500 plus medical benefits. Voluntary Work Fund
The Association of Art Historians offers financial assistance to student members who arrange voluntary work placement or intenship in a UK museum, gallery, heritage site or other visual artenvironments to encourage participation in specialised projects or more general placements that result in a borad overview or range of skills. Funds are available to subsidise daily travel, meals and accomodations, childcare and training and materials.

Internship Description: Reports to Assistant Registrar and Assistant Curator, Collections. Duties include organizing, archiving, and creating finding aids for photographs and paperwork related to an archive of US Government photographs documenting the destruction of Hiroshima, Japan in 1945.
