Diana Brown, Associate Professor of Anthropology and Latin American and Iberian Studies
Diana Brown began teaching at Bard in 1988. She received her B.A. from Smith College and her Ph.D. from Columbia University. Prof. Brown is a medical anthropologist who teaches courses that focus on the cultural construction of health, medicine, and the body. She has conducted research in Brazil and Liberia, and her writing includes articles in American Anthropologist, American Ethnologist, Liberian Studies Journal, and several edited volumes. At Bard, Prof. Brown has organized a extra-curricular seminar on AIDS and is co-chair of the Gender Studies Program. Prof. Brown is chair of Columbia University Seminar on Brazil and Co-Chair of Metropolitan Medical Anthropology Association. Prof. Brown's research has been supported by fellowships granted by Fulbright-Hays, Ford Foundation, Lehman College, CUNY, and Columbia University.
