Coursework outside the class is required and will include participation in online forums and occasional journals. This course also requires attendance at one New York City-based performance (paid for by the student) and participation in Bard Dance Day.  Prerequisite: Intermediate Modern Dance or the equivalent.  No exceptions. Contact Improvisation II will continue the development of the underlying principles of contact improvisation–gathering information with the senses and observing how the body composes a unique response. It will highlight the study of  improvisation, focusing more on how we track, develop, and translate impulse into movement. We will amplify the process of deep observation, and explore more challenging lifts, riskier use of momentum, and more possibilities in response to a partner.  This class is as interested in the 'contact mind' as the 'contact body'.
