This course will focus on developing reading skills in Sanskrit, the classical language of India. Throughout the first semester, we will also review basic Sanskrit grammar, examine reference resources, and practice oral recitation. Readings may include animal fables (Hitopadesa), epic narrative (Ramayana), philosophical instruction (Bhagavad Gita), drama (plays by Bana and Kalidasa), and commentarial prose (Sankara's bhasya on Bhagavad Gita).
